How two brothers built something different by doing what felt right
It started in a small concrete building on Wooster Pike in Mariemont, Ohio. One bay. One lift. A couple of brothers were trying to make something work.
Chip, his brother Chris, and a handful of family members were there early on, doing whatever needed to get done that day. Phones, installs, cleanups, and conversations with customers. There wasn’t much separation between roles because there wasn’t much room for it.
In the early days, there wasn’t a playbook. Just long hours, tough calls, and two brothers figuring things out in real time. Back in the day, every tire shop operated the same way. You’d advertise a price for the tire, then add the rest later. Mounting. Balancing. Valve stems. By the time the work was done, the final bill never quite matched what the customer thought they were getting.
But Chip had to be the one explaining that difference face-to-face, and he hated it. He knew how that conversation felt on the other side of the counter, and he didn’t want to build a business around that moment. So, he and Chris made a different call. Quote the full price up front. No add-ons. No fine print. Everything included from the start.
It wasn’t common. It definitely wasn’t easy. But it felt right and that was enough.
Watch the early story
In the video below, Chip and Chris look back on those early decisions, what they felt like at the time, and how those first choices shaped everything that followed.
Word started to spread not because of marketing or scale, but because people noticed the difference. A straightforward answer. A clear price. No surprises at the counter.
One good experience turned into another.
By the mid-1980s, that small shop had turned into two. The second location opened on Galbraith Road, and for the first time, it felt like this might actually become something bigger.
But growth wasn’t the goal. Getting it right was. And the belief stayed simple. Treat people honestly, and they’ll come back. Fifty years later, that still holds up.
