Can a punctured tire be safely repaired?
Can a punctured tire be safely repaired?
Often yes, but sometimes it’s just not safe to fix.
At Tire Discounters, we use vulcanized patch-and-plug repairs, the gold standard in professional-grade tire restoration. It’s the safe, permanent way to fix punctures in the tread. Not a shortcut. Not a “that’ll do” job.
Here’s what qualifies for repair:
• A puncture in the tread, not on or near the sidewall
• A hole less than 1/4 inch wide
• A tire that hasn’t been driven flat or damaged internally
If it meets the criteria, we fix it the right way—and we do it for free if you bought your tires from us. It’s part of our lifetime flat repair promise. And if the damage can’t be safely fixed? We’ll walk you through the why. No pressure. No upsells. Just real advice from people who know tires like… well, Tire Discounters.
How do I check tire pressure and what PSI should I use?
How do I check tire pressure and what PSI should I use?
Checking your tire pressure is quick and easy, and doing it monthly can save you money on gas and extend the life of your tires.
Here’s how you can check your tire pressure:
• Use a tire pressure gauge (digital or manual)
• Compare the reading to the recommended PSI listed on the sticker inside your driver’s door (not the max PSI on the tire sidewall)
• Add or release air as needed
Don’t have a gauge or just want someone else to do it? Find a location near you and stop by. We’ll check and adjust your pressure for free.
What are Run-Flats and how do they work?
What are Run-Flats and how do they work?
Run-flat tires are designed to do exactly what their name says, keep rolling even after a puncture, usually for up to 50 miles at reduced speeds (around 50 mph).
That means no panicking on the side of the road or digging out a spare. They’re a popular choice for luxury and performance vehicles. but they require special care, and not all shops can install or service them properly. (We can.) Not sure if you have or need run-flats? We’ll check and help you decide if they’re the right fit for your driving style and budget.
What is TPMS and how do I know if it’s working?
What is TPMS and how do I know if it’s working?
TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and it’s one of your car’s built-in safety features. Here's what it does:
• Monitors pressure 24/7
• Alert you when a tire drops 25% below its recommended PSI
• Help protect your tires, fuel economy, and safety systems
You’ll know it’s working if:
• You see the little horseshoe-shaped warning light when pressure gets low
• It stays off when everything’s good.
If that light’s on constantly or flashing, it may not be working properly and should be checked out. We’ll test your TPMS for free and walk you through what’s happening or not happening.
Can you fix my TPMS sensor or reset the tire pressure light?
Can you fix my TPMS sensor or reset the tire pressure light?
Yes and yes. just needs a reset, has a dead battery, or was damaged during a previous install, we can handle it.
TPMS sensors have batteries that typically last 5–10 years. When they wear out, we can replace and reprogram them in-house, no dealership needed. It’s one of those little things we do that makes a big difference, especially when you’re relying on those lights to keep you safe.
